Bookery Founder/Dreamer
I didn’t have many books growing up, and I wasn’t really read to as a kid. For a long time, I didn’t think much about that, but as I grew up I found books anyway!
At a friend’s house, there was one I kept going back to, “The Way Things Work” by David Macaulay and Neil Ardley. I’d sit there well into the wee hours of sleepovers flipping through the pages, completely mesmerized by how things worked, how it all connected. That book sparked my curiosity, probably the beginning of how I think about the world.
Two of the art pieces in the kids’ room at The Bookery come from that book. Every time I see them, and every time I look out at a store full of books, and people of all kinds gathered together, I’m right back there. Just pulled in. Curious. Wanting to understand a little more.
And honestly, that’s the whole point of The Bookery for me. I wanted to create a place where that can happen for anyone who walks through our door.

Emma started working at The Bookery during her first year of law school. Despite orienting her career in such a dense field, Emma’s reading taste is far from it. She loves dark comedy, surrealism (think Mona Awad and Melissa Broder), and horror/thrillers. Her favorite part about working at The Bookery is her lovely coworkers. In her spare time (besides reading), Emma loves to run, hike, mountain bike, cook, and embroider, and has started learning to sew.

Garrett has worked at The Bookery for over 4 years now, and orders all the shiny new releases our shelves and tables are stocked with. Their favorite genres are literary fiction and fantasy, and they LOVE a book that makes you think or makes you weep (preferably a bit of both). When Garrett’s not at work you can find them reading (duh), playing with their cat Puck, having LOTS of opinions on Shakespeare, playing D&D, or watching Survivor!
